"Admission
Criteria" project
Material
already received
Translation has become a pan-European profession, and increasing numbers of
translators working for clients outside their own country are seeking membership
of more than one professional association. FIT-Europe
welcomes this development, and urges professional translators to apply for
membership of professional associations both in their country of residence and
in the markets where they do business.
It often happens that associations receiving applications from members of
another association elsewhere in Europe would wish to offer them some financial
incentive and seek to keep the procedures for admission to a minimum. In order
to do so, they need full details of the conditions candidates have already met
for admission to their original associations.
This is why some 15 European associations, when they met in Brussels on 3
February 2007, called on FIT-Europe, the Regional Centre for Europe of the
International Federation of Translators, to collate, summarise and publish the
rules for admission applied by professional translation associations across
Europe.
We cannot even begin this task without the collaboration of member
associations. We are accordingly asking you to send a copy of your conditions of
admission to projects@fit-europe.org.
Since the official languages of FIT are English and French, it would be most
helpful if you could also provide a translation into one or other of those
languages.
As information is received, FIT-Europe will publish the results on this
website.
