"Code of Ethics" project
Dear
FIT Europe members,
As
you may already know, FIT Europe's Steeering Committee is working on a number of
projects. One of them is the European Code of Professional Practice, setting out
common rules of conduct for translators.
The
first phase of the project was to collect and study the codes of Europe's many
associations. Those documents are available on this site, and can be consulted
by clicking on the link below.
The
next phase was to draw up a preliminary draft of a European Code of Practice.
That document has now been made available to the European translators' and
interpreters' associations which are members of FIT Europe, for consultation.
They have until 6 August 2008 to submit comments and propose improvements to the
code. Their reactions will then be incorporated into a final document which will
be submitted for approval at the forthcoming General Meeting of FIT-Europe, on 6
December 2008 in Paris. You can follow the link below to the text as it stands
at present.
If
you would like to contribute to improving this code, we invite you to refer to
your national association, for it is the associations which have the right to
submit suggestions regarding the content of the draft code.
For
the FIT Europe Steering Committee,
Reiner
