European Code of Professional Practice
At its Annual Meeting in Berlin on 11 September 2009, FIT Europe adopted a Code of Professional Practice (see link below). This Code lays down the basic rights and obligations of translators and interpreters as a non-exhaustive guide for its member associations. It is hoped that the Code will gain wider dissemination, for example by inclusion in the EU Self-regulation and Co-regulation Database.
The Code is the product of a FIT Europe project launched in 2005. The diverse codes of Europe's many associations were collected (see link below) and studied. On this basis a European Code of Professional Practice was drafted and then circulated among the members of FIT Europe for their comments and suggestions. Following various amendments, a final version was adopted in Berlin. The Code is available in English and French.
