Working Groups

The Steering Committee of FIT Europe has set up specialized working groups for the purpose of dealing with particular issues and preparing, at fairly short notice, documents designed to promote consideration of fundamental issues by the European associations of translators and to assist the Steering Committee in its decision making process. Only members of FIT Europe member associations may participate in these working groups, which make a crucial contribution to the activities of FIT Europe.
Working Group on Criteria for Conformity Assessment and Certification under EN 15038 Created: 8 February 2007. Deadline for completion of activities: two months Members: John Graham (ATICOM - Germany); Eva Leitner (Universitas - Austria); Jacqueline Reuss (SFT - France) Contact person within FIT Europe Steering Committee: Terence Oliver Mission. To draw up a set of practical recommendations on assessment of conformity with the European standard EN 15038. Objective: To issue and disseminate recommendations to the certification bodies, with a view to harmonizing the certification criteria related to EN 15038 in the European countries. Note: Task concluded on 4 April 2007. Report approved and endorsed by FIT Europe Steering Committee on 21 April 2007; recommendations broadly disseminated and uploaded to this website.
Working Group on Interpreting Created: London, 21 April 2007. Deadline for completion of activities: three months Members : Catia Lattanzi (AITI - Italy); Mary Phelan (ITIA - Ireland); Natália Rósza (VÜD - Germany) Contact person within FIT Europe Steering Committee: Sandro Corradini Mission: To draw up a catalogue of the various types of interpreting practised in Europe and to identify the challenges confronting each type. Objective: To propose action plans and recommendations on interpreting in Europe.
Working Group on FIT Europe structure and means Created: London, 21 April 2007. Deadline for completion of activities: one year Members: Joăo Esteves-Ferreira ( FIT Europe Chairman - Switzerland); Birgitte Jensen (FIT Europe Co-chair - Denmark); Andrew Evans (FIT Council Member - United Kingdom) Mission: To review the input from European associations to the FIT Europe Mission Statement. To analyse the adequacy of the present structures and the means available for implementing the agreed mission items. Objective: To propose to the Steering Committee a structural solution that best matches the future needs of FIT Europe, in order to present the European associations with an appropriate option for decision: to keep, adapt or replace the existing structure. Note: the Working Group submitted an interim report to the Steering Committee on 9 June 2008 and the deadline for submission of the findings was extended until the General Assembly of 6 December 2008.

for a survey of individual members of the FIT Europe member associations
concerning rates charged and salaries earned by translators in Europe. Objective: To propose to the Steering Committee the best solution
commensurate with security requirements and financial resources, with a view to
launching the pan-European survey early in 2009.
